Joni & Friends is the worldwide ministry founded in 1979 by Joni Eareckson (now Tada), twelve years after she lost her own mobility in a diving accident. Today Joni and Friends seeks to “bring practical help and Gospel hope” to the more than 1 billion people worldwide with disabilities (https://joniandfriends.org/about/ ). The organization’s major international ministries are Wheels for the World, providing wheelchairs to those who have none; Joni’s House, caring for those with disabilities; International Family Retreats for families with disabilities; and Global Internships affording opportunities to participate in disability ministry. Stateside, in addition to these ministries, Joni and Friends sponsors a disability research center, radio and other outreaches, and training opportunities for individuals and churches. Our church has a special connection to this ministry, as Joni grew up and was confirmed here.
