Christ is Risen!

In his letter to the Romans chapter 1 verse 4, the apostle Paul says that Jesus “was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.”

This month we celebrate Easter, the day of Christ’s resurrection, on Sunday, April 5. We begin our worship service with the words, “Christ is Risen; The Lord is risen indeed!”

These words of the apostle Paul introduce the subject of the Gospel of God by saying that the Gospel of Jesus Christ was promised beforehand through His prophets. The Old Testament prophets bore witness that the Christ would descend from the line of David. In Romans 1:4, Jesus was declared to be the Son of God in power by His resurrection from the dead. Our Lord was from all eternity God’s only begotten Son. As the divine Son of God, He has no beginning or ending since as God the Son, He is eternal. Our Lord’s deity was made evident by His resurrection from the dead with His great power!

Because our Lord rose from the dead we can be assured of these truths:

  1. We can be confident that Jesus is who He said He was, being both God and man.
  2. We can fully trust that since Christ rose from the dead, He actually died on the Cross for our sins and reconciled us to God by taking our deserved punishment.
  3. We can fully believe all that Jesus taught in the Gospels as being true and worthy of our attention and the commitment of our hearts.
  4. Since Christ was raised from the dead, our labor for the Lord is not in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”
  5. We look forward to the 2nd coming of Christ to judge the living and the dead. Our hope of Christ’s 2nd coming is based on the fact that Christ conquered death by His resurrection from the dead.

To our Risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be all praise, worship, and glory!
